Welcome to the Ohio Small Business Development Center at Marietta.

The SBDC provides business consulting to a four county region comprised of Monroe, Morgan, Noble, and Washington Counties.  Services are provided in the three areas:

  • Pre-venture - thinking about starting a business

  • Start-up - the first two years

  • Existing - growing and expanding 


There are several services available to assist new entrepreneurs in starting a business and all are available at no cost. The following are the usual steps taken in starting a business with the SBDC’s help.

  • Contact the 1st Stop Business Connection for information on licensing and permits 

  • Attend Basis of a Successful Start Class

    • Assessment of client readiness, both personal and financial

  • Begin 1-on-1 consulting relationship with SBDC Certified Business Advisor

    • Development of a business plan

    • Identification of funding sources

    • Proposal presentation to potential funding sources

    • Funding secured

    • Getting the doors open


The SBDC Certified Business Advisor can assist the newer business owner by being a deliverer of new information and knowledge as well as an implementation facilitator, helping the client to implement new concepts and approaches in the business operation.

  • Review of existing business plan or development of a new business plan

  • Strategic Management Learning System, an SBA program, providing a year-long series of business plan implementation steps covering the following topics, one per month:

    • Cash Flow Management

    • Forecasting

    • Management Control

    • Target Marketing

    • Time Management

    • Financing

    • Human Resources

    • Inventory Control

    • Marketing Communications

    • Credit and Collections

    • Strategic Analysis

    • Knowledge Management Systems


The Integrated Quality Assessment© (IQa) tool is designed to assist companies become more successful.  It is designed to take a comprehensive, systems view of the company and its performance from multiple perspectives.
